This event features expert speakers who will discuss the latest in federal infrastructure funding and helpful tips, as well as provide strategic insights for state legislative writing programs on how to best position yourself for funding opportunities.
Bio: Laura Morgan-Kessler is a principal at Carpi & Clay, a federal lobbying firm in Washington, D.C. Morgan-Kessler brings 15 years of experience advocating for public entity clients on a wide range of issues including infrastructure, natural resources and the environment. She provides them with timely and strategic intelligence on congressional and federal agency actions and helps develop and implement federal advocacy strategies. Previously, Morgan-Kessler spent time on Capitol Hill as a legislative staff member for Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA). Morgan-Kessler graduated from Wake Forest University with a bachelor of arts degree in political science with a minor in sociology.
Bio: Cori Takkinen is the Southern California senior director at Townsend Public Affairs, Inc., a government relations firm that specializes in local, state and federal legislative advocacy and grant writing. Takkinen leads the Southern California client service team, which supports and manages a variety of public agency clients. Takkinen works in Sacramento and Washington, DC, to develop and implement strategies – including various funding approaches, advocacy plans, legislative plans and relationship building – to achieve specific legislative, budget and funding objectives for TPA clients. Takkinen has successfully secured more than $91 million in local, state and federal funding for her clients.
