Trends in Electron Backscatter Diffraction
Wednesday, November 12, 2008 - 11:00 p.m. to Thursday, November 13, 2008 - 12:20 a.m.
ChEMS Seminar
Featuring Valerie Randle, Ph.D., D.Sc.
Professor, Materials Research Centre, School of Engineering
Swansea University, Swansea, United Kingdom
Location: California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (Calit2) Auditorium
Abstract:
The main focus of this presentation is to capture emerging developments in electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD), specifically in the last four years. The review is addressed from the perspective of improvements in EBSD technology and the consequent expansion that this has brought about in applications. The main topics covered are data collection optimisation, interface characterisation, three-dimensional EBSD, multi-phase materials and strain assessment. To conclude, trends in EBSD usage in terms of material type and application are examined.
Bio:
Professor Valerie Randle has been eminent in the field of electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) for more than twenty years. Her other main research interest is grain boundary engineering in metals and alloys. She has more than 300 scientific publications in these research topics, including five textbooks. She is a past Welsh Woman of the Year and recipient of the Institute of Materials’ Rosenhain Medal. Currently, she is Head of the Materials Research Centre at Swansea University in Wales, UK.
